As cherrapunji, is sub-locality of Meghalaya, so you have an opportunity to see other places like Shillong.Beside air, Cherrapunji, can be reached by rail & road mode.

Cherrapunji, can be reached by train or rail mode, by going to nearest and well connected railway station of Guwahati. This station is hardly 170 kms away from Cherrapunji. On reaching this location you can either take a Meghalaya state bus services, which is easily available on the paltan bazar side. If you are not comfortable in travelling buses, you can take taxis to reach Cherrapunji,as the only mode available to reach Cherrapunji from Shillong is by road.

Try to make your trip on a sunny day, as this will help you in having a clear sight seeing of the this paradise. I’ll not give you the entire history which could easily read in Wikipedia, I’ll just give you a gist of Ross Island, this Island was named after sir Ross. This Island was a living hub for Britishers, they have everything here like officers’ club, church, and stores. Everything which is required for the basic requirement. After Britisher, it was captured by Japanese for 3 odd years and now it’s in the hand of Indian Navy. I hope this information suffices to give a gist of Ross Island.

First, you need to visit Port Blair. If you want to visit Port Blair, by ferry you could reach by Chennai or Kolkata. The same cities (Chennai or Kolkata) to be visited if you plan to go by flight.On reaching Port Blair, you can take the ferry to Ross Island from Port Blair . You can buy tickets on your own from the spot itself. Having talked about the Ross Island, now let’s look what places you can see when you at  Ross Island beach

Another thing what you can see here is a subordinate officers club where subordinate officers’ use to do parties that time, by continuous gazing their club I can feel the zest of parties they used to have that time.

This church is the center of attraction at Ross Island, commonly called as Presbyterian church.This church is almost in a broken condition, I’m not sure about the religion, I guess it’s a Protestant church, as it’s out of order now you can have a glimpse from outside only.

Chief Commissioner’s Bungalow At Ross Island

The one of the biggest house in Ross Island is chief commissioner’s bungalow, it’s really a bungalow with large hall, ball room and other facilities you could have imagined. The architect of this house takes me back to the architect of the iconic building like (FRI, & IMA) what Britishers had made in Dehradun. Unfortunately, I couldn’t click the pics as I visited this place very late.So, I was running out of time and my ferry was about to reach the shores of Ross island Andaman . To give you a little bit of information on the timings you’ll be given a timing of approximately 1 hours and 30 minutes to stay in Ross Island. But I’ll give you the glimpse of this bungalow with below appended pic.

Having said earlier after British, Ross Island was captured by Japanese, they haven’t destroyed anything that Britisher had built, they use their resource till the time Ross Island was under their possession. But they only built one thing for their safeguard till the time they had Ross Island in their possession was a bunker. Here is a pic for you guys!

     Is Ross Island Haunted ?

A big no, there is nothing like this, it’s a rumor!. Ross Island do have graveyards but it doesn’t mean it’s haunted Island .Can you imagine this island not only open in day time but In fact it’s open for visitors till night for light and sound show at Ross Island. Let me brief you what’s  exactly this show is . In late evening this island conduct a show which project all the story in the form of photos & videos . So don’t overthink just enjoy the light and sound show at Ross Island Andaman and make the full use of your Andaman Travel package !

Jorhat Airport , which is the nearest airport to Kaziranga national park which is almost  96 kilometers from kaziranga national park.Else you can deplane at Tezpur airport which is approx 59.9 kilometers from the Kaziranga national park .

You can reach Kaziranga national park from Guwahati via furkating railway junction hardly a two-hour drive for Kaziranga National Park .

If you are a hardcore road traveller then go via Guwahati to Kaziranga National park highly recommended as it is 240 Km from Guwahati airport,  by going via Guwahati to Kaziranga National park you will enjoy the scenic beauties on way to Kaziranga National Park . who knows if you are fortunate enough you may have chances to have a glimpse of one horn rhino on your way to Kaziranga National park.

Umanda temple, is a shiva temple located at the peacock Island or Umanda Island in the middle of river Brahamaputra.

On reaching this beautiful location surrounded by Brahmaputra river or commonly known as Umanada river. I was curious to know the significance of Umanda Temple.

As per the priest “ When lord Shiva was once doing meditation on this Umanda Island was interrupted by Kamadeva, the Kamadeva bear the dire consequences he was burned into ashes by the fire of lord shiva’s anger. The presiding deity in this temple is lord shiva.

It is believed that worship on Amavasya if it falls on Monday will bring laurels & happiness in your life.

As, this beautiful temple is situated on the banks of river Brahamaputra also known as Umanda river by locals. One can reach here by ferries. These( ferries)are available from fancy bazar ghat . Umanda temples are open all days of the week from morning 5.00am till evening 6.00 pm. Best season to visit this place is all time except rainy seasons due to heavy rainfall in this areas. The temple personnel won’t allow you to click pics but somehow I manage to click one. Will share with you!
